Thank you
Final words from Ashley:
Before, I summarise the winners, there has been a lot of discussion over the last couple of weeks about extending the season to include a one-day tournament. A provisional date has been suggested - Sunday 11th September 2011 - and would be for a very good cause. (Those of you who participated a couple of years ago will know what / who I am talking about). But before we go into organisational mode, I need to know which teams would be interested. And, to be honest, I would once again open this up beyond our own community. Please let me know by return so I can gauge overall interest.
I am delighted to announce that Jo Kingsbury was the outright female player of the tournament and the male player was a split decision as three candidates had the same number of votes through the summer. I am delighted that Mark Jeffery won the outright award, in particular for his championing our tournament to encourage more teams to enter but Neil Dalton and Sam Green were also recognised with medals.
In terms of the leagues, Musn't Fumble took last place in the tournament (on points over Team Rocket) and won the Booby Prize (literally). All the Gear, No Idea won Division 5 (but were not around to collect their medals, so please let me know how many and where I can send them please). Neil Dalton's Blockheed Martins won Division 4 (so he will probably be trying to sell his second medal on ebay). Average Joe's proved they were above average by winning Division 3. Shy Teds weren't so shy and won Division 2. (The puns just keep coming). And, for the seventh year in succession Pants won Division 1, although they were given a tough ride by Knockers & Knackers, who were a very gallant and credible second.
Pants also won the quiz (proving that Purbrook Park is an academic institution as well as producer of top volleyball players). And Team Rocket came second (proving that they can win when they put their mind to it).
Once again, a very big thank you to the Rugby Club for hosting us. And to Bill, for managing the overall schedule, Bam Bam for chasing everyone for their money, Fran (who suffers more than most at the start and end of this tournament with my general 'grumpiness') and Emma, for being an 'all round top girl' and 'quiz-mistress'
So, hopefully see you next summer. But, in the meantime., do let me know about 11th September.
Thank you to all that have been a part of the tournament this year.
